What this compound is

BPC-157 is a laboratory-made peptide of fifteen amino acids. The laboratory that originated it reported the sequence as a section of a larger Body Protection Compound said to occur in human gastric juice, which is where the name comes from; that parent protein has not been independently isolated or sequenced by other groups. In the laboratory it is used as a tool compound in cell-culture and rodent studies of cell migration, blood-vessel formation (angiogenesis) and nitric-oxide signalling. Published work comes largely from a small number of research groups, is early-stage, and has not been established in humans; it is not approved for any medical use.

Studied in

  • Cell migration
  • Angiogenesis signalling
  • Gastrointestinal tissue models
