What we test, and what we tell you
Two questions matter about any vial: is the right molecule in it, and how much of what is in it is that molecule. Different instruments answer each, and a credible certificate reports both, for the specific lot in your hand.
Where the material comes from
Amino20 Labs is a distributor, not a manufacturer. We do not synthesise peptides and we do not operate an analytical laboratory. Material is sourced from a contracted supplier that manufactures each lot and has it tested before release, and we resell that material with the lot documentation intact.
We say this plainly because the distinction matters when you are judging a certificate. Our supplier does not test its own product: each lot is sent to an independent US analytical laboratory, and that laboratory is named on the certificate. We do not run our own tests either — the certificate is the independent laboratory's record, passed through unaltered.
The two tests
HPLC — how much
High-performance liquid chromatography separates a sample by how strongly each component sticks to a column. Each one leaves at a different time and registers as a peak. The target peak's share of total peak area is the purity figure. A number is the only useful form of that claim — “high purity” without one says nothing.
Mass spectrometry — what
Mass spectrometry weighs the molecule. Because a known sequence predicts an exact molecular weight, a match confirms identity — that the vial holds the peptide named on the label rather than a different one of similar purity.
Purity without identity proves nothing, and identity without purity proves nothing. Both belong on the certificate.
What our supplier states
Our supplier specifies 99% HPLC purity across the catalog. Every lot is tested for purity (HPLC) and identity (mass spectrometry) by an independent US laboratory before release, and the lot number on each vial matches its certificate. That per-lot certificate is the document we publish.
What this does and doesn't mean
- Independent testing. Each lot is tested by an independent laboratory chosen by our supplier, not by the supplier itself. Amino20 Labs does not commission separate retesting of incoming lots; if that changes, this page will name the laboratory that performs it.
- The testing laboratory. Every certificate names the laboratory that ran the analysis. We publish certificates as received and never fill in or alter a field.
What a certificate should contain
Whether it comes from us or anyone else, judge a certificate of analysis on whether it carries all of these. A document missing several of them is a marketing asset, not a test record.
The lot number
It must match the number printed on the vial. A certificate that names no lot describes nothing in particular.
The date of testing
Analysis has a date. Its absence makes the result unanchored.
A purity figure
A specific number from a named method, not an adjective.
Identity confirmation
Mass spec result against the expected molecular weight.
The method used
Which column, which detection wavelength, which instrument.
Who performed it
A named laboratory, so the result can be attributed.
Handling and storage
Peptides ship lyophilized — freeze-dried to a dry powder — which is stable at room temperature for the few days in transit, so no ice packs or refrigerated shipping are needed. On arrival, store at −20 °C, desiccated, and protected from light where the compound requires it. Storage conditions for each compound are stated on its catalog page and on its documentation. Material handled outside those conditions after delivery is outside our control, which is why the claim window is tied to receipt.
