A20-1042 · Recovery & Repair
What labs study it for
Tissue and blood-vessel research. Labs use it in cell cultures and rodent models to study how cells move, how new small blood vessels form, and how gut lining tissue behaves.
What this compound is
BPC-157 is a laboratory-made peptide of fifteen amino acids. The laboratory that originated it reported the sequence as a section of a larger Body Protection Compound said to occur in human gastric juice, which is where the name comes from; that parent protein has not been independently isolated or sequenced by other groups. In the laboratory it is used as a tool compound in cell-culture and rodent studies of cell migration, blood-vessel formation (angiogenesis) and nitric-oxide signalling. Published work comes largely from a small number of research groups, is early-stage, and has not been established in humans; it is not approved for any medical use.
BPC-157. Supplied lyophilized. Lot-specific HPLC and MS documentation accompanies each unit.
3D structure
Carbon in orange, nitrogen blue, oxygen red, sulfur yellow. Formula C62H98N16O22.
Structure from PubChem CID 9941957, with 3D coordinates computed from it.
Family
All families →Cytoskeletal and tissue-model peptides
Two unrelated peptides studied in overlapping cell-migration assays.
The cytoskeleton is the internal scaffolding a cell uses to hold its shape and to move. Thymosin β4 is a protein that helps manage it by binding actin; the TB-500 in our blend is listed by its supplier as thymosin β4 itself (CAS 77591-33-4). BPC-157 is a fifteen-residue sequence reported by its originating laboratory as part of a larger protein in gastric juice — a parent that has not been independently isolated. The two are unrelated in sequence but are studied in overlapping assays, which is why they appear together in a blend.
Fields of study
- Cell migration
- Angiogenesis signalling
- Gastrointestinal tissue models
